In other cases further surgery may be required ( e . g . removal of the band ), should gastric erosion or a similar complication be detected.

Within a week of starting the older drugs, more than 30 percent of patients develop gastric erosions or ulcers ( often without symptoms ), and within a year, about 3 percent have significant, sometimes fatal gastrointestinal bleeding.
